Skateboarding Weekend

by John Herrell on 26. October 2009 15:20

Have I lost my mind?  Sometimes I think I have.

Within the past 2 years I have gotten involved with going to the various skateparks with my son.  Now, unlike most mom and dads out there, I am dumb enough to actually try to skate myself.  March 2010 will mark my 37th birthday.  We really have not been on our boards for at least 6 months this year, and I believe I went almost all of 2008 without skating due to work.

This weekend my boy and I went to Ramp Riders on Friday evening for 4 hours, then made our way out to Jefferson Barracks Park on Saturday afternoon.  I can say, I enjoy trying to skate, but enjoy being with my son even more.  Saturday, the weather was awesome.  It definitely beats being indoors on one of our last nice days of the year.  Now, hurting myself just sucks, but ya gotta fall if you are gonna learn.  I have not successfully dropped in on anything over 2 feet tall since my first season of outdoor skating, but I am trying to get up my courage to drop in at 4 and 5 feet once again.  Quite honestly, I am scared of the concrete and scared of the wood... damn if I do, damned if I don't.

So even though the weekend was good, I am sitting at work, swollen left ankle, 2 scrapped knees, and my typical Monday migrane.

Seeing that Monday nights are Jujitsu evenings, I will feel great tomorrow (Tuesday).

L8r... time to head home and get ready to roll on the mats.

About John

What can I say? I am a geek and more. I write software for a living, can't get too much geekier I guess.  I love to be a geek but I am also somewhat of a greaser. I love cars, trucks, and motorcycles, chassis fabrication, bodywork, and painting.

Some folks don't think the combination of geek, mechanically inclined, and artistically inclined blend well together, but that is who I am. If I was wired any differently, I wouldn't think the way I do, and be able to perform the type of work I do day-to-day. If I am not at work, I am either working out or working on something automotive or motorcycle related.

This blog does not focus any any particular aspect of my life.  You never know what I'll post, but I will try to keep it interesting.more to come later...
